On one occasion, weeding under the rows of vines turned into a race with their brother-in-law Piet, who was helping out. With more experience, Peter and Joe would take a break at the end of their rows while Piet finished his, only to start back on the next set as soon as he was done. The brothers easily won and, while Peter admits it was a little unfair, it definitely made it less like hard work.
